Here We Go Again
I know everyone’s sick of this now; I don’t tire easily of ranting about things that annoy me but even I’m bored of her. Still, Bindel is at it again, and once more I’m left feeling awkward about being a part of LGBT activism and feminism. Why is she allowed to speak for us? This is why you so often see the phrase “I’m not a feminist, but…” - no, those people probably are feminists. Julie Bindel may be hailed as a feminist by her and her fanclub, but she is not very good at it.
Why is the Guardian paying this woman to systematically insult the trans community and indeed a large part of the CIF readership? She’s not particularly nice about bisexuals, either. Take a look at some of her articles.
This article, though. This article is by far one of the most ridiculous I have seen at least this year. It’s like she’s saying “What, you don’t like it when I insult you? HERE, have some more of it then!” and then, of course, mixing in a little idiocy so that we don’t know whether to laugh or cry:
Transsexuals, having received short shrift from heterosexual society, asked to be included in our rainbow alliance, followed by Queer (anyone who is into “kinky” sex)
Whoah, whoah, whoah. No, Julie. People who are into kinky sex are generally kinky. I mean, they might be queer too, but queer != kinky.
That woman needs to do some research.
This little alphabet thing she’s got going on? What the hell? I wouldn’t particularly want to be lumped in with a devil worshipper into beastiality either, but for goodness’ sake, what exactly is wrong with androgyny, or bisexuality, or even more specifically, androgynous bisexuals?
You don’t want to be in our club, Julie? That’s fine: for as long as you keep writing trite like this, we’ll keep on telling you you’re rubbish.
On a related note, Julie told those protesting at the Stonewall Awards on Thursday the other night to “get over yourselves, and stop writing such guff.” - someone needs to follow their own advice, I think.
Oh, and for future reference, Julie, apologising for the way you say something is not apologising for saying it, and if you then go on to write further abuse about the very same people you’ve just “apologised” for writing abuse about, we’re not going to take you seriously.
Someone fire that journalist.

I was disgusted by her “queer = ‘kinky’” thing too. And I used to read some of her articles (I’d somehow managed to completely miss her transphobic ones) and think she had a point sometimes, over feminist issues. I was totally wrong. A feminist is one who believes in equality for all. Ms. Bindel clearly doesn’t, so isn’t. And I’m quite disappointed that the LFN supported her.
She doesn’t understand transness, or queerness, or that there’s a continuum of gender, not the fabled binary. Urgh. She’s as feminist as Sarah Palin.
